Day 387 10th August
14 miles (Liberec) Average speed 6.6 mph Top speed 24 mph
I got up at 8, showered and had brekkie at the buffet; hotdogs and cold meats and cereal. I had to move out of the room and stored my bags in reception before heading off to explore the 5th largest city in Czech. In the town square was an exhibition of organ grinders, one even driven by a steam engine.
Then onto the tourist office, they only had maps for sale, but they recommended the Bohemian Paradise which is a UNESCO site where I’m heading next. After a night of rain it turned out to be a nice hot day so I bought food in Lidl and went to the lake to sunbathe while watching beach volleyball and some naked older men and a granny who sat right in front of me.
I went to a bike shop and then back to the hostel to cook dinner in their kitchen. I had what looked like chicken legs but tasted like pork? with sweet potatoes and peas and gravy. Then listened to radio 5 and watched the World Cup athletics on TV. I was in bed by 11 and glad to be out of the rain.
I’m in Liberec in a triple room with TV, fridge and a shared bathroom all for £12. I’m enjoying it here and, like Germany, anywhere where beer is cheaper than water is fine by me. I learnt a fair bit about Pilsner Urquell last night but I’m paying for it now!
Inter hostel £15 with brekkie.
