Day 390 13th August
53 miles (Jinolice to Kutna Hora ) Average speed 11 mph Top speed 30mph
I got up at 8.30, showered and had brekkie of tea with cheese and spam sarnies in the kitchen. I exchanged numbers with Miroslav and said goodbye to him and his wife and thanked them for a good evening. Miro insisted on giving me another beer for the road.
I soon found the main road and was flying along with lots of downhill and a good wide shoulder for most of the way. I felt the need to put in some good miles today after a short day recovering from dads camp yesterday. I stopped at Jicin and had a cake and a cold orange.
Checking the map I realised I could take a more direct route avoiding the main road and went through some small villages; some of which were fairly rundown, but it was a good route even though the road surface wasn’t great. I arrived in Kolin and found a Lidl open on Sunday, so bought more bread and cheese and some new insoles for my shoes. I’m glad I took them out of the packet to reduce bulk as there was only one in the pack so I went back to find a pair. Then I tried to find the river to eat lunch but there was nowhere suitable so I ate in a park.
Then I followed the busy main road 38 to a turn off for Liberace and went up some fairly big hills to arrive at the campsite where I checked in, had a beer and set up camp just as the rain started. After a shower I went for a walk into the town and saw many menus in English and some lovely buildings now that the rain had stopped and a rainbow above a church.
Back at the campsite I had a spicy pork steak from the bbq and another beer and an early night, I was in bed by 9.30. A very good day in the saddle.
