Day 589 1st March 2018
19 miles (Massaguaca to Caraguatatuba ) Average speed 7.7 mph Top speed 26 mph
I got up at 7 and made tea and porridge for brekkie. I showered and found a hotel nearby on booking.com reduced from 109 to 62 reais with a pool, which meant I was in no rush and took my time before saying goodbye to Helmo. I promised to let him know when a post goes up on SPC (Here). Then I took on the only climb of the day. It was steeper than most recently and very hot on the way up. There is also a lot more traffic now closer to the cities and I wasn’t given too much room on the two lane uphill.
Once at the top it was too busy to get across the road to take a photo but I enjoyed the views on the way down. There was a big blue building which looked like a former bullring but I didn’t investigate further. I found the road that the pousada is on but it was once again a mosaic of small hexagonal blocks which wasn’t a pleasant ride. Then a woman who was burning rubbish outside her house said hello, before allowing her dog out to chase me up the road.
I had 3 hours to kill before check in so rode to the beach and followed the bike path into town and found an opticians who fixed my glasses for free with a new screw. I am beginning to like all this free stuff!
Caguaga pousada 62 reais.
