Day 206 10th February
16miles (around M’hamid) Average speed 8.1 mph Top speed 19 mph
Up at 8 for brekkie with Marie Claude and Christian of bread, olives, omelette, date and strawberry jams and cheese, fresh oj and coffee. We chatted about their work and our trips and I waved them off to the Chegara desert. I went for a ride to look for campsites or hotels but the wind really picked up and I decided to stay at Kasbah to keep out of sand and wind.
Back to clean my bike and have another omelette, this time with minced beef and vegetables, which Ali made for me, delicious once again. I had a rest in a hammock but got covered in sand, my washing is all done but that too is very sandy.
Then wrapped up and went for a walk in the desert where I got very windswept and saw various skulls and skeletons. I climbed to the top of a dune to get a better view and hide out of the wind.
I came back before I got lost, which is easily done, especially with poor visibility.
Then another hammock rest before heading into town to check out 4×4 prices to get me to Foum Zguid and they were asking for 2000 or 3000 which would still leave me with 70km of off road to do! I went for dinner, where I met Mohamed, who said it would also be 2000 as I wouldn’t be sharing with anyone. So I think I will be riding back! I had chicken skewers with rice and chips, bought some chocolate and then Ali met me on his moped, so I rode back to kasbah with him and had tea. Looked out for the lunar eclipse but gave up at 11. Maybe I’ll see it in a while if I wake up?
