Day 1015 1st May 2019
13 miles ( Chanthaburi ) Average speed 7.7 mph Top speed 18 mph
A good productive day off.
I was awake at 5 and studying my onward journey. I got up at 9 and went to find a sewing machine to fix my shorts and hammock. I found a gems market and a man with machine who did all my repairs for 40 baht.
I had brekkie of sausage eggs and rice before exploring this lovely city. It has lots of character and was once owned by the French. The buildings are impressive and it is very charming. It has the oldest cathedral in Thailand and much street art of a very high standard.
Then I visited many very good bike shops in search of bartape. I found some leather tape but at £30 I couldn’t justify the cost especially as I will soon be entering monsoon season so I opted for a 350 baht black tape which I will apply when my brown one is exhausted.
As I sit here by the river having a beer I’m reminded of a bird I’ve only heard in Thailand. It’s call sounds like it’s saying fuck off! Sorry for the language but it’s the only way to describe this bird. I’ve not seen it but I have heard it’s call often.
