Day 178 13th January
44miles (Torreguadiaro to Tarifa) Average speed 10 mph Top speed 29 mph
Another good day but a tough one.I went to meet Mandy at KE Club with her friend who was doing the London to Brighton ride, and then went in search of post that was due from Scotland. We went to the post office in Sotogrande, then one in Guadiaro and finally to see if post box in the urbanization had it, but no good. So Mandy gave me her maps and adapters for tyres. Said good bye to Mandy and then had to go back as I had left my sandwich and the maps behind – Doh!
Set off into a strong headwind which bugged me all afternoon. I followed the service road on the motorway until it ran out at San Roque. The I joined the motorway itself and came off at Decathlon. They had my size of shoes but I decided to carry on with the one I damaged playing football on the beach with Vernon.

The one that got away – I decided not to buy these
Then I carried on the motorway as I didn’t find the route Mandy had suggested, which was OK, until the hills out of Algeciras. They were very long and I was getting blown all over the place. The headwind really picked up as I climbed up and it felt like I was going nowhere. It was also bloody freezing and I had to put my yellow shirt over my long sleeve shirt so that drivers could see me in the dark corners and to keep warm.
