Day 200 4th February
26miles (Ouarzazate) Average speed 9.7 mph Top speed 23 mph
My days off still seem to involve a degree of cycling.
I was up at 8 and went for a walk before brekkie at the hostel cafe of bread, croissant, cheese and honey with cafe au lait. Then I decided to go to the Atlas Studio Tour, where lots of films (including Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, The Living Daylights to name but a few) were filmed, but on the way I bumped into Tom, Dana and Nina from ITN. It really is a small world, I noticed them filming at a roundabout and asked who they were filming for.
We then met 10 minutes later at the studios.
I just missed the guided tour but walked around on my own.
I joined the next tour but soon gave up when it was all in French.
I enquired about a quad bike tour but decided I could probably see as much on my bike and soon I will be witnessing the real thing.
I checked out the campsite and met Simon and Moira in their campervan. We chatted about campsites and our experiences and what was upcoming.
Then I went back to the hotel via the offie, I think you need a beer to listen to Orient commentary these days.
Spent the second half of the match cleaning chain, it’s good that they wrap your beer in newspapers, they make good floor protection. I washed the bike off standing in the shower – the bike not me!.
Then went for a ride to find another campsite and the hotel that ITN are staying in. The campsite wasn’t up to much and their hotel was miles out in the middle of nowhere, not sure who does their fixing but it was good to see the poorer parts of town!.
Back to my hotel for another beer and then to hotel Voyager for beef tagine – delicious. A coffee in Cafe de la Nord capped off the day well, but it’s really tiring staying in the same place, so I’m off to bed at 10pm on a Saturday night.
