Day 231 7th March
52 miles (Fes to Moulay Idriss ) Average speed 8.2 mph Top speed 29 mph
Up at 5.30 and had several cups of tea while watching the sunrise. Marie from Norway joined me and I offered her tea, which she commented was very English. We had a good chat about Spain, as she is studying in Fuengerola at a Norwegian school. She is visiting with six beautiful Scandinavian girls.
Then I had brekkie and met the other touring cyclist, Dan from Switzerland, who has been on the road for 18 months, but is on his way back to Switzerland after injuring his knee. I was chatting for ages with him, Fabian and Dennis from San Francisco about cycling.
I didn’t finish brekkie until 10 and felt the need to get a move on. I packed and said goodbye to Carmen from Granada and the rest of the staff. Then climbed the hill into the new town with some pretty crazy drivers. I think my most common phrase on this Moroccan part of my trip has been ” where do you want me to go” when cars and lorries toot for me to get out of the way. Eventually I got out of Fes and found myself in a poor part of town and not able to get back to the main road. Some kids who were swimming in the river gave me some help and then a guy playing footy on his own showed me the way through the river path past a shepherd.
A lovely ride to Moulay Idriss
