Day 240 16th March
35miles (Asilah to Meloussa) Average speed 8.1 mph Top speed 22 mph
Up early and had brekkie of bread, jam and marmalade. I chatted to a lady from Morocco who has lived in Spain, but is now hoping to build a beach cafe. We discussed many aspects of Morocco. I spoke to the boss who didn’t rate the bike mechanics of Asilah and recommended Decathlon in Tangier, so decided to try my luck and see if I could make it there on my buckled wheel. I’ll be nursing it 30 miles into 50kmh winds to Tangier.

Brian all set for the wind and nursing the bike along
Left at 11 and it was strange to be riding the same road as I had 2 months earlier. The wind was fairly strong but coming mostly from my right and as soon as I got to the coast road there was plenty of tree cover.

Riding the coast road
I’m at Hotel Tangier Med in the middle of two motorways, and with only 23 miles to go to get to the ferry port. Having decent wifi and access to electricity meant I could post on Facebook and contact home, as I had been off-line for quite a while.
Also just looked at spc and it says it’s had 200+ hits today!! Wow
I just googled cycling in Morocco toll roads and spc came up on page one of Google. We are making it big time. Well you are, I’m just pedalling!! Xx
(Ermintrude: That’s good to know, x)
Just taken a call from Kamal and he wants to come and meet me tomorrow. He thought I was in Tangier but is now coming all the way to Tangier Med; the guy is amazing. He has to close the shop to do this and he has very little money. He is unbelievable.

Hotel Tangier Med
Hotel Tangier Med £30 but I have a massive room and a bath!
