Day 268 13th April
45 miles (Tournus to Beaune) Average speed 10.9 mph Top speed 23 mph
A great day . Up at 7 and had a brilliant brekkie of smoked salmon omelette and 3 teas. Headed off but soon realised I’d left my orange drinks bottle on the shelf. So after turning round and the chain falling off, it wasn’t a great start, but I hit the river cycle path and things were going really well if a little cold.

Soon I ran into a JCB and should have realised that things were only going to get tougher. The path soon ran out and I was left on a dirt track for about 5 miles until I finally reached civilisation and a boat yard, but that path soon ran out too. So I joined the road for a few miles before spotting a sign for a velo route, which was great for another 5 miles before it came to an abrupt end. Not far though to Chalon sur Saone. From there I found an expensive Carrefour and carried on to find a good spot for lunch. I ventured deep into a forest path and set myself up on a tree stump. Before long I was joined by a wild deer in all its resplendence. It was a bit eerie in the forest but very rewarding.
I carried on to Beaune and the municpal campsite
