Day 44 1/9/16
28 miles (Goizueta to Lekunberri) Average speed 7.3 mph Top speed 37 mph
Good campsite €10.40 but they need someone on reception.
Another great day but hard work. Fighting the satnav again but managed to get through it. I think it’s got heatstroke as it was telling me to do a 35 mile round trip for a 5 mile journey on a road that, although it was uphill, it was worth it for the descent.
I couldn’t find my socks this morning and searched everywhere. It was on my mind all day until I found them in my pillow bag tonight!
Woke up to robins and cats and fed the fish in the river. A slow start as I was busy enjoying the scenery. Left at midday after the best shower yet. Followed the river to its source at about 800 metres, then the satnav tried to send me west, but I didn’t fancy that, so went down to Leitza.

Hills and valleys
Then all the way back up the next side of the valley another 800+ metres ascent. Saw a few cows on road on the way and plenty of goats bells and crap!

Cows on the road to Lekunberri
The descent into Lekunberri was absolutely brilliant if a little scary at times. Found a campsite sign at just the right time again and went back into town to see in the 2000 miles mark back at campsite.

Day 44 – 1st September -2000 miles

Celebrating 2000 miles with wine and beer
Celebrated with my favourite Spanish wine Barbadillo and tuna pasta cooked with the best wood I’ve found on a dump site outside camping grounds. (Grandad would be proud! ) it’s even charging my phone.
A truly great day once again but tough on the legs. Looking at the map I think I may make Vern’s by October. I’m absolutely loving this trip but I must stop speaking French. They really don’t like it round here: I got told off in a shop this morning for my language! I did miss Brian today he would have loved the scenery and I would have taken more photos.
