Day 315 30th May
51miles (Alvedsjo to Trollskogen) Average speed 11.2 mph Top speed 20 mph
I got up at nine and had egg, bacon and saute potatoes for brekkie, did my washing and repaired two holes in my mattress and one in the fly sheet of my tent, also one in the inner tent. I showered and after a couple of calls left at midday to head to check out the ferry and on to the northern part of the island. First stop was at Byrum where I saw a cameraman and soundman recording the wildlife, then checked out the limestone stacks left by the sea’s erosion but couldn’t find any fossils.

I found a great path through the pine forest next to the beach.

There were good camping spots alongside the sandy beach and I saw a fire pit and a wooden shack which would have been a great spot. After about 6km it turned into a beach-side road all the way to the port, lovely and quiet, not a single car in either direction and the wind behind me.
At the port I stopped for coffee but couldn’t find any information on the ferry so I carried on to the north of the island. At Trollskogen there is a nature park and I was only allowed to cycle in the main path through the middle. At the end I locked the bike and walked along the beach to see the views and do some beachcombing.

Beach for combing
I didn’t find much but it started to rain so I went back to ride the 25km back home. I stopped at a shop in Melby but the sports shop I was looking for was closed.
Then I went to the Boda Sands hoping to use their sauna but once again everything on the campsite was closed until 3rd June. I went shopping for dinner and had pizza when I got back, then watched Churchill’s Secret film on TV and fell asleep on the sofa. It was good to be back on the bike and my hamstrings knew I was back in action after a week of rest.
