Day 320 4th June
52miles (Kalmar to Berga) Average 13 mph Top speed 94? (Not right)
A great day cycling until the rain came.
Up at 9 and brekkie in bed of tea & bread with pate. I left at 11.30 and took empties to Netto to buy some lunch. I headed North past the footy stadium and then back across to the E22, which I followed on the cycle path until it ran out, when I headed inland. I was making good time with the wind behind me and decided to carry on the H596 at Rockneby. When I got to the turn off I wanted, it turned out to be gravel road, so I carried on. I stopped at a lovely weir for lunch and enjoyed my Brie and chorizo with lettuce wrap while watching a fisherman. I think I’ve only seen one catch on this trip.

Lunch beside the weir
After lunch the road I was on turned into a cinder track, but it was good fun going up and down the undulating road. This part of Sweden is not too hilly and it’s good to have short hills to go over and back down the other side.

Path through the trees
The countryside was beautiful and I only wish I could have seen an elk. After a few miles I returned to the tarmac and really enjoyed the afternoon until the rain got heavier and I needed to find a good camping spot preferably with some shelter. I carried on in the rain without finding anywhere suitable so eventually I headed for a campsite. The price seemed a bit steep as they wanted to charge the same as my hotel the night before, but they did have a kitchen so at least I could cook my burgers in the dry and erect my tent in the kitchen before taking it out into the rain. It looks like this rain could be set in for a while but hopefully it might be clear by morning.
