Day 371 25th July
36 miles (Sandersdorf to Leipzig) Average speed 11.6 mph Top speed 78?? mph
Awake at 10 after a late night with Richard and Helena. Brekkie of a strange pepper paste with capers and toast and cheese and tea, hiding from the rain under a canopy. I packed up my tent and tried to dry it out. I showered and left at 1 and of course got lost in the rain and was soaked through. The B183 I wanted to take had signs saying no cycling and I ended up going in a big circle around the lake back to where I came in yesterday.
I soon found the B184 and it stopped raining but I still got wet from the spray of the lorries passing me. I got to Delitzsch in good time but then it rained again, so I took refuge in a cafe at an animal park. At 2.80€ it was an expensive coffee but the waitress was lovely and suggested I spoke English. I charged my phone and found a good route away from the main roads. The sun even came out for a few minutes as I left.
I followed the cycle path signs for Leipzig and went round some big lakes with excellent cycle paths until I hit roadworks and had to detour, but it stayed dry all the way into the city. Then while looking for a hostel the phone packed up, so I found an Irish bar to charge my phone and have a pint of bud. I checked in to a really good hostel and found myself in a dorm of six to myself. It’s clean and has a good kitchen so I went to buy pizza and look for a bike shop. Then things took a turn for the worse as I couldn’t find my passport. I retraced my steps but it was nowhere to be found. I got very annoyed with myself and frustrated, so I went to a witches bar to console myself with a beer as there was nothing I could do about the passport until the morning.
