Day 397 20th August
Vienna
Another day off my bike completely.
I got up at 9 and had brekkie of free muesli and tea. I checked the bike and went in search of bread, but as it’s Sunday there are no shops open in Austria. On my return there was a crazy old woman in the garden telling me to go inside the hostel, as the garden is shared by the residents. When I returned I couldn’t find my shoes as I’d left them outside to dry instead of stinking the dorm out. I asked in reception but they didn’t know, so I checked around thinking I’d gone crazy, before finding them in a bin. I couldn’t reach to get them out and asked another room-mate with longer arms to help me. Then I cleaned my lights and changed the batteries and dried out the cycle computer on the radiator and thankfully it’s working again – until the next downpour anyway. I had a bit of a tidy of some of my gear and checked emails before going out for a walk at 1pm.
I walked around the city and enjoyed the magnificent architecture.

Then went for a beer in an empty Irish pub. I went back to the hostel where I chatted to the long-armed Polish guy, while I ate my leftover pasta. Then I decided to go for another beer and found a bar called the Coloured Cow, where I met Roy from Reading and his friends, and played darts with them. I whipped their arses and played cricket or mockery mouse as they called it. I beat off the first two with 300+ points and then hit two bullseyes to finish the game and take their 4€. I think they were shocked, but as Roy left he bought me beer and we exchanged numbers.
