Day 402 25th August
43 miles (Szombathely to Zalalovo) Average speed 10.4.mph Top speed 22 mph
I got up at 8.30 for a good buffet brekkie of coffee, bread, cold meat and cheese and cereals. I paid 10,460 but they thought I’d already paid. It was a very hot morning and I went into town to see the Romans, but wasn’t going to pay to get in.

Following the legion – Roman re-enactment soldiers
So I went to a second hand shop and bought some cycling shorts for 80 pence with a proper chamois gusset. They had some good Shimano cycling shoes but they were one size too small. I also checked out the indoor market and saw a beautiful girl in the florists. I then bought a tape measure for 30p and decided I needed to get a move on after a drink of cold Fanta.
The road out of town and on to Kormend was very quiet as most people take the main 86 route. It was a bit rutted in places but a very pleasant ride. Today was incredible, mostly downhill with the occasional climb thrown in to keep me on my toes, but some of it was brilliant. I stopped in Jak for a coke in a bar next to a market. I carried on along the same route that St Martin had taken on his pilgrimage and it was a great road with a lot of good downhill and a fair bit of flat.

Beautiful country
It took me through some very pretty villages and many had some nicely decorated gardens and lots of flowers. I stopped to buy pizza and cold drinks in Aldi at the town of Kormend and sat in the square and read leaflets I’d got from tourist info before going on some paths near a river and lake.

Batthyány-Strattmann castle in Körmend now an exhibition centre
Camping Bernsteinsee. 6€ approx but I paid in Hungarian forint. Lovely campsite with great facilities. I even have my own table and campfire.
