Day 443 6th October
22 miles (Mantua) Average speed 7.5 mph Top speed 96 (the computer needs fixing)
A day of rest.
I got up at 9 and had brekkie of muesli and yoghurt with tea. Washing done, I left at 11 for a tour of the city which apparently is older than Rome in places. There is a lovely cycle path into town alongside Lake Superior and into the old town. I visited the Basilica and the house of Rigaletto and had lunch in the park near the Ducal Palace. Then back along the cycle path and a rest at the lake, where I saw a water snake and some geckos and some big fish.

Basilica of Saint Andrea

Ducal Palace Mantova

Palazzo Te
I got back to the campsite just in time to avoid a big thunderstorm, making tea and eating leftover quiche in a building while hailstones hammered down outside.

Watching the storm
Then a siesta and on to the pizza place I bought beer from last night, for a pepperoni pizza with chips and a beer before going to a very friendly bar to watch Macedonia draw 1-1 with Italy in Turin which was a very accomplished performance not appreciated by the 3 old boys sat in pub with me. I think I was the only one there to buy a drink. Then I sat on terrace with the youth of the village playing music and watching the river flowing by. A good day off but I still clocked up 22 miles!
