Day 484 16th November
31 miles (Assilah to Tarifa) Average speed 13.4 mph Top speed 82 mph
I got up at 6.45 as I couldn’t sleep due to a snorer in the room! I watched the sunrise from the rooftop with a cup of English tea with milk and wrote my diary. At 8.15 I had mileu bread and jam with coffee and chatted to the other guests and staff. I’d spent more time at the hostel than the rest of the staff! There was a girl from Madrid and one from Eindhoven and a guy from Chile. The snorer was still in bed so I don’t know where he was from. I left after another English tea and headed north.

Making good progress
The road was good and flat and I made good progress. I stopped at the same place I had before after an hour and got a bottle of orange and a couple of chocolate bars to eat next to the beach development. Then I carried on past the new golf resort and on to Tangier. The traffic was very heavy, but not too much of a problem, apart from the odd lunatic and I followed a motorcycle courier for a while before discovering a Decathlon where the prices were ridiculous, but I bought a pair of sunglasses and some energy bars and headed for the port.

Arriving at the ferry port
I stopped to buy a ticket and had a really good chat with the lady on reception about my trip and experiences. She spoke excellent English and was interested to hear about the people I’d met and their way of life. I then bought a ticket and was assured I would make the 2 o’clock ferry even though it was 10 minutes to 2. So I rushed to the port and had no problems getting through customs and boarded. It didn’t leave until 2.15 so I could relax on board and enjoy the reclining chairs.
