Day 489 21st November
43 miles (Cornil de la Frontera to Puerto Santa Maria) Average speed 12.2 mph Top speed 24 mph
I was up at 10 after enjoying a lie in. I packed up and left at 12. I went to leave through the back gate and tried to go around a speed bump and hit my front pannier against a kerb, I was lucky to get away without any damage. The gate was closed too, so I had to go through the front entrance and take a longer route to the n340. Once I got onto it the road was good with a wide shoulder. Once again the wind was in my favour and I flew along at a good pace.
I stopped for a break once I got off the motorway and onto the service road and had a drink and a pee by a river with lots of rubbish dumped by the roadside. Then I avoided getting lost by trying to take the cycle path like I did last time I was here and carried on along the motorway. I’m not sure I was supposed to be there on the road from Puerto really, but it was my only choice. I went to Decathlon but they had no gas except for Coleman which at 8.50€ I chose to go without. I made it to the campsite at 3.30, checked in and set up the tent before having a beer at the bar next to the campsite.
Then I went back to Decathlon and asked about fixing my wheel which would be 10€, but I don’t really trust their mechanics so I decided to go to a shop in Cadiz. Then I wasted time looking for gas elsewhere and got very cold once the sun had gone down. I went back to the campsite and had sarnies and crisps with beer, and then went for a walk to the footy stadium where I had a beer and watched some locals showing off their skills in a five a side.
I was tired and in bed by 9.30.
Camping Dumas Playa 11€
