Day 556 27th January 2018
47 miles (Vila Velha to Porto Grande) Average speed 11.8 mph Top speed 25 mph
A day of searching for a campsite.
I got up at 9 and had brekkie of sausage and onion rolls with tea with fresh milk. I left at 11.15 and took the beach cycle path until it ended. At which point I decided I was missing the sand and carried on a sandy road which had footpath signs. After 2.5 miles I arrived at a bridge which had collapsed into the river so had to go all the way back and join the road, which had a perfectly good cycle path of its own. Doh.

The bridge had collapsed
I followed this path until it became paved when I joined the main e 60 which had a good hard shoulder. I rested at a petrol station and had a 2 litre bottle of guarana while talking to a guy selling window cleaner. Then pushed on until I reached Sebita where I stopped to listen to the Os losing to Aldershot. I didn’t eat there but used their WiFi.
I looked for the campsite nearby, but had to go 2 miles out of my way only to discover that I had to stay for more than one night, so I carried on to the next one 4 miles further on, who said that they no longer had a campsite. So it was now another 11 miles to the next. I had a drink in a petrol station and asked if they had a room, but they were full, so I carried on to the campsite after a drink. I soon got to the signs for the campsite but they sent me down a very steep hill which tested my braking powers. Once through the gate I parked the bike and climbed the steps back up to reception and the car park at the top of the hill.

View from the campsite
Carlos and his wife were very welcoming and offered me dinner, which at first I declined, but after a shower and the prospect of cooking I accepted. I went to a supermarket to buy brekkie and have a beer in the bar while watching footy. Then I returned to the campsite for dinner where I met a German from Stuttgart and his Brazilian wife and father in law. We had dinner together and chatted a lot about Brazil and all sorts of stuff. Dinner of fish and salad with rice was delicious. I’m now trying to air my camp bedding out as it’s been festering in a bag, wet, for too long. I will need to use my sleeping bag for the first time since Spain as the liner is very smelly. Good night, signing off at 10.30.
Camping pousada 35 reais + dinner.
