35 miles (Quissama to Macae) Average speed 11 mph Top speed 28 mph
Computer broken down after 15 miles, so these are estimates, as are yesterday’s. I really should remove it before washing the bike!!!
I was up at 8 for brekkie of toasted ham and cheese sarnies with scrambled eggs and coffee. My computer was broken so I tried to dry it out in the sun, which surprisingly worked, but not before I’d dropped the battery under the pool decking. Also surprisingly I had the brain functioning enough to use the headphone speakers’ magnet to fish it out first time!
I left at 10.45 and followed a good road for seven miles to reconnect with the e178, but then once again it turned to sand and I had to negotiate 4 miles of wet, rutted track. At one point a delivery driver asked if I was OK and needed a lift. This was the first person in over 50 miles of sand who had offered assistance or even acknowledged my problems. Normally they just engulfed me in a cloud of dust. I made it to the main road and then had to contend with a headwind and quite a few hills. I stopped in Carapebus for a drink of orange and a Snickers for energy and pushed on up the hills.
