Day 596 8th March 2018
16 miles (Boraciaea to Indaia) Average speed 11.1 mph Top speed 37 mph
A good short day with a couple of challenges.
I got up at 8 and had a swim and sausage sarnie for brekkie with coffee. I said goodbye to the boss and left at 12.30 after a few calls. The road was pretty good and flat apart from one small bridge and I made good time. After an hour I stopped at a shopping mall and looked around, which was a mistake, as it then started raining.
I took the cycle path to a linking road but it had a guard on the road, it made no difference as it was totally flooded anyway, so I went to the beach and sheltered under an ice cream stall briefly. Then I decided I had to go for it along the beach while there was a lull in the rain. The beach was fairly firm until the end when I had to get through some soft sand and a flooded path next to a footy pitch.

I found my way to the hotel through flooded roads but was 40 minutes too early so went back to the supermarket to stock up on food and beer. I sheltered under a shop doorway and John came out for a chat. We talked for a while about his shop and my trip, then I returned to hotel and met Rodrigo who was originally from Japan but lived in São Paulo before getting a tennis scholarship in Indiana. We chatted and it was great to talk English. He was a really nice guy and had left his banking job to start up this hotel on his own. We had a lot to talk about. Then I went for a walk on the beach between rainstorms and had a beer on the beach watching the sun go down behind the clouds.

I cooked dinner and had an early night.
