Day 643 24th April 2018
24 miles (Corbelia to Cascavel) Average speed 8.5 mph Top speed 33 mph
Once again an easy day turned into a tougher one than expected.
I got up at 8 for usual brekkie of toasted ham and cheese sarnies, coffee and bread and jam. I rested and then left at 12 with only 11 miles to ride. I took my time and arrived at Campo Azul Lagoa, but it wasn’t really very good for camping, no food or shops and the facilities looked limited and even the pools not very clean. So I went on to find a hostel in the city centre, but not before climbing lots of hills, the first of which was pretty steep but at least it was good to get back on some tarmac.

A proper road – it’s there somewhere!
At the top of about the third climb I found a shop for a Fanta and then a few more ups and downs before arriving in town, where there were very good cycle paths. I checked into the hostel, which is new and doesn’t officially open until 5th May, and I was their first non-Brazilian visitor. I chatted with Diego, who had lived in London while studying English, and then I went to watch Liverpool play Roma in a friendly bar. I bought food to cook, but got chatting to Diego again and ended up not cooking. I was in bed by 10 with 9 beds to myself.
Hostel inn baia 48 reais.
