Day 665 16th May 2018
47 miles (Capiovi to San Ignacio) Average speed 8.6 mph Top speed 36 mph
I got up at 8 for a good brekkie of cheese omelette and tea.
I left at ten thirty after handing in two bracelets I found by the waterfall. I took on the first of many hills and was wondering if this was in fact worse than Brazil. I managed to get to a shop in Jardin America just before they closed for siesta and buy some ham to go with my warm mouldy cheese and dry bread and a drink, and found a rotary club statue which looked like the rose of Yorkshire, to have lunch in the shade.

Lunch stop Jardin America
The town was not very appealing and the hotels even less so, so I pushed on to the next campsite.
I was run off the road, which was now down to two lanes and no hard shoulder, by a couple of buses and a lorry; but worst of all was an overtaking car who had no intention of giving me any room and I ended up on the muddy verge.
At Santa Pipo I found the campsite at the bottom of a hill and went to investigate down a dirt track. Pileta camping apepu was closed but I ducked under the gate and found a man in a hut who said I should be able to camp there but I’d have to wait half an hour for him. I found a reasonable spot, but didn’t bring the bike in. When he arrived and ducked under the gate himself he slipped and almost fell. I tried to help him, until he told me that I wouldn’t be able to camp there. I’m not sure why, but for the next 11 miles to the next camping I cursed him all the way and hoped the fat git got stuck under the gate on his way out.
The next part of the journey was a bit stressful as the sun was going down and many lorries and buses came closer than I would have liked, but I made it to the campsite and set up before dark.
I had a cold shower, but later I discovered that the higher tap brings the advantage of hot water, oh well it certainly was refreshing! As it was late I decided to eat out and eventually found somewhere open, nobody goes out before 9 pm for food. I had steak and chips and a beer for 250pesos. I think she striped me up for the beer, but that’s what you expect as a tourist!!

Steak and chips. mmmmm.
Camping familia 120 pesos.
