Day 856 23rd November 2018
9 miles (Singapore) Average speed 7.2 mph Top speed 19mph
After a very long and much needed sleep I woke at 5 minutes to midday and had brekkie of toast and peanut butter and a banana with three coffees.
A rather large blister on my left foot meant I would need to walk in my flip flops and I ventured down to the bridge across to Sentosa. After quite a walk I found Vivo shopping mall which enticed me in with its air con. I spent a while in there, but didn’t buy anything . Then, as I ventured outside for the views, a thunderstorm came, so I stayed a bit longer staying cool and then took the metro to Outram. Where, as I was walking back to hostel, the rain stopped in time for me to take in some of the local houses which were very pretty in pastel shades.

The houses are pretty pastel colours
Back at the hostel I rested and put plasters on my blisters, as I now have a second one on my toe from the flip flops. Then I met a German who is going in same direction as me, but is going to Indonesia first, we chatted for a while and then I went to dinner with Gabriel. We chatted for ages about touring and our experiences and exchanged numbers so that I could sign up to a WhatsApp group for cyclists. It was really good to talk cycling and different cultures with him.
Then I went out on my bike to see the light show in the bay where there was also an Indian band playing at an open air theatre.

It was much more pleasant to ride at night with quieter roads and cooler temperatures. I tried to buy a beer before the 10.30 curfew in shops, but was declined in 7/11 with a minute to spare. So I went back to Maxwell centre to buy one. Then back at the hostel, the restaurant bar was still serving, so I had a couple of 5 dollar skols before bed. It feels much safer here than in South America and I must be careful about leaving my bike unattended as I may become complacent.
