Day 870 7th December 2018
35 miles (Muar to Melaka) Average speed 10.1 mph Top speed 22 mph
I got up at 5.30 and went walking at 6 along a river, to watch the sunrise and have a coffee with the locals, who’d just come from the mosque.

Sunrise
Back at the hostel I chatted to Susan from Leicester for ages about Warmshowers and many other touring stories. We got on really well and she cycled the first 20km with us, which was a nice change for her and us.

We had lunch at 12.30 at a roadside cafe and continued chatting en route. When she turned back we had a long way to go before the next drinks stop, which was next to paddy fields with a nice couple and their daughter. We had melon to eat and two glasses of water melon, but only paid for one, more generosity.
The rain soon arrived and we toured around Melaka looking for WiFi and food. After a good chicken curry we said farewell to Don, as there was only room for two at Teddy’s, and agreed to keep in touch. Lucas and I headed out to the north of the city to find Teddy’s, just as it was getting dark.

Transport in Melaka
We met Teddy and his mum, and showered before having veggie rice with Teddy and then went to the night market to buy tofu for desert. We chatted and then had an early night.
