Day 952 27th February 2019
87 miles (Beruas to Penang) Average speed 13.2 mph Top speed 28 mph
What a Crazy day.!
I was awake at 3.30 and went to use toilet. On the way back I wiped my feet on the entrance mat not realising that I had trod in cat shit until I could smell it back inside my liner. Dirty feet and liner so with no cover and mosquitoes attacking me I chose to leave at 5 as prayers started at 6 anyway. I packed up and left some money in the collection box and cycled off into the night.

Early start
At first there were street lights but soon the darkness took over and as in France I followed the white lines. The first hour was very quiet but soon the trucks became more frequent and I took refuge in a bus shelter next to a mosque which was about to open for prayers. I had my emergency rations of honey and oatmeal biscuits with water.
As I sat wondering why this was such a crazy idea, the lorries were getting bigger and more frequent and I was in no rush to join the madness of the dark; I did though and I quite enjoyed the buzz of not being able to see the road ahead. It was more about the feel of it beneath me and adapting to conditions. Experience has taught me what to expect and how the roads edge will vary, of course there was danger and I did feel a little cautious because no one would have seen me if I had crashed.

I did arrive in Penang in one piece
Hostel frame 32 ringgit.
