Day 1021 7th May 2019
52 miles (Koh Kong to khum trapeang rung ) Average speed 9.5 mph Top speed 36 mph
Another great day that started early.
I was up at 6. showered and left at 6.30 with a very clean bike after last night’s shower. I went to the market, but it was so enclosed I didn’t want to leave the bike, so I had a coffee and free tea before going back to last nights restaurant for a chicken club sandwich and chips with delicious coffee.
As I was leaving I met Alba from Pamplona and we chatted for a while. She had a very old white sit up and beg bike that she was given by somebody in a hostel whom she had happen to mention that she would like to tour by bicycle. That man gave her a bike and she then couldn’t really go back on her word. She had just cycled the 100 + km on the road I was considering taking north. She was going to the same Tatai waterfall as me and I was hoping to meet her there but maybe she had a long breakfast!!
I climbed up to the waterfall and after a 2 mile sandy track got there, paying 1 dollar entrance fee but it was worth more than a dollar!! The place was beautiful and I enjoyed the cold fresh water for a long swim. The fish weren’t hungry for toes but it was a wonderful place so I stayed for a couple of hours relaxing. Alba didn’t show so I pushed on to the bridge and village for lunch of beef and rice while my clothes dried out.
Then I went downhill most of the way to the village where the homestays I wanted to get to were apparently closed down, so with directions in Cambodian, I ventured off in search of another place to stay. The green homestay was full but a builder on site directed me to another one.
Community homestay no8.
4 dollars with a fan and a mosquito net and lots of dirty walls.
