Day 1040 26th May 2019
25 miles (Kratie to Sambor ) Average speed 9.9 mph
A good day watching dolphins, thunderstorms and some dodgy roads.
I got up at 7 and had brekkie of scrambled eggs with baguette and good coffee at the hostel. I left at 8 and made my way to the dolphin viewing area at Kampi.
On the way the road surface was bad enough that I had to stop and tighten my mud guard. I had a drink and then made it to the boat. The security guard was a bit stroppy, but at least the ticket office could change a 100 dollar bill! The boatman was happy enough, but keen to get back to land after only 45 mins instead of the hour I’d paid 9 dollars for. It was great to see the Irrawaddy dolphins close up but not close enough to take any photos.
I then continued along the riverbank to a place that looked good on paper but was full of people touting for business so I carried on to avoid another tourist trap.
I found this guesthouse easily and checked in with the old man who said I could park my bike in his house.
Then I went for lunch and enjoyed the views of the Mekong. I had a siesta and awoke to a raging thunderstorm which was great to watch, but I’m glad I wasn’t on one of the boats being tossed around.
Then after chatting to the owners son I had a couple of beers and went for dinner which may have been intestines! At least they had WiFi, which the guesthouse doesn’t. I have a long day ahead and am already in bed before 9.
Daily guesthouse 6 dollars. Fan and a nice room.
