Day 1085 10th July 2019
32 miles (Thakhek to houaykhaomin gnai ) Average speed 9.6 mph
A wonderful day riding off the main road after 10 miles of highway with no shoulder.
I was awake late at 9 for coffees and a chat with ping pong, the owner, before a good breakfast of bacon and eggs with baguette and latte.
Then I took the Mekong river road to go for as long as I could. There were some magnificent residential houses which looked so out of place compared to the poverty around. Some were only just being built, but I’m not sure who is living in such palaces!
Then it was back to the main road where I had some gear indexing problems before trying to find the Great Wall. The sign posts were confusing to say the least but I found it eventually.

I stopped at a garage for a wash and drink and took the next left down to the riverside road which although sandy and tricky was much better than the highway.
