Day 1095 20th July 2019
33 miles (Vientiane to ba khoksivilai ) Average speed 10.6 mph Top speed 23 mph
I was awake for a good breakfast of fried eggs with salad and coffee. Then I rested in the dormitory with the Chinese and checked out at 12.
On the ride to the football stadium the bike felt really good after Willy had done his wonders with the wheel and the transmission felt good. I went in search of a Buffalo hostel marked on maps me without much hope as I couldn’t find any info on internet and it proved to be fruitless, so I went back and joined the road to the stadium.

the road to the stadium
After a drink stop at a garage, I found the stadium and found many places to wild camp, but I wasn’t sure if security would be too tight after the game. So I chose to head for another hostel marked on the map only to find that this didn’t exist either. I had taken a sandy road to discover this and then it started to rain so I had another cold drink and went back to the main road to find a guesthouse.
The lak 21 people welcomed me and showed me to a fanned hot room with a cold shower for 80000, but I was just happy to have somewhere to stay only 4 miles to the stadium. I rested and showered before trying to get a taxi or bus to the stadium having missed the first game. Amazingly no taxis or busses passed me in 20 minutes, so I returned to get my bike and ride there. I made it with twenty minutes to kick off and had three kebab skewers and a beer before entering the impressive stadium.

The stadium is impressive; the football not so much
The quality of football was very poor and I wished I’d brought my boots; oh no, I ditched those a long time ago, but the first touch of some of the players was worse than Hackney marshes on a Sunday morning.
