Day 67 24/9/16
62miles (Camping La Isla, Rute to Cortijo del Alcazar Alcaucin) Average speed 8.8mph Top speed 36.3 mph
This was my toughest day yet but it was worth it. So rewarding to succeed and make it to meet Raul & Eva my Warmshowers hosts tonight
This was a day of massive mountain climbs and incredible scenery.

Camping La Isla – no need for a tent
Started with omelette in baguette and tea at 8am. Sunrise woke me as I was sleeping without putting up my tent.
Then after brekkie paid a rather large bar bill and headed down to the lake for pictures.

Then a climb up to get round the lake to the dam.

Dam
Saw Soc-Sat graffiti near caves of San Marcos and this was the first time I had thought of work. Stopped in quite a few towns for drinks as they were much needed.

Typical scenery
I soon realised that after fighting the satnav I wasn’t going to make it to Alcaucín before dark. So mailed Raul to let him know.

Sun going down but still a way to go

Nearly there
Then as I came though another mountain range with goats and sheep I started to look for accommodation in Zafarraya. When suddenly I noticed the trip here was mostly downhill so I carried on. I arrived at sunset.

Brian – arrived in Alcaucin
There was still some way to go to meet with Raul and Eva, but they kindly came to collect me and take me to their restaurant where we all slept. There was no electricity but we managed a good meal and a good night’s sleep. Lovely people who made me feel very welcome and chatted for ages.
