Day 15 3/8/16
36 Miles (Craon to Chateaubriand) Average speed 9.6mph Top speed 25 mph
Charged batteries while cleaners were in games room but they locked up, so I had to wait until 10 for reception to open. Went into town for a coffee and came back to pay as I got in late last night. Receptionist said it was my lucky day and I didn’t have to pay! On the way out of town I tried to stop at crossing for an old couple, he went across and she waved me through saying velo has right of way.
I cycled the path to Renaze and carried on the d771 to Pouance; another lovely girl in tourist office there. Stopped and had an Orangina in a bar, which had very good toilets, and the barman filled my water bottle with cold water.
On to Brittany and Chateaubriand
Lost Brian the snail in a ditch when trying to take a side road that led nowhere, I had to retrace my steps but he was where I thought he’d be hiding. Only 4 mile round trip. Thanks Brian.
This diversion led me to stop at the Musee Resistance where there is a memorial for 27 people who were killed by the Nazis.

At which point I decided that as rain was forecast and the city and chateau look worthy of a visit I would stop here and do the tourist thing tomorrow in the rain (very British). There was a very pretty girl in tourist office, she smelt delightful but I don’t think Eau de Brian appealed to her much as she was giving me a wide berth. She directed me to the campsite and told me there is burlesque dancing on tomorrow
I found the campsite and as it was already raining I was in no rush so when the lovely receptionist spent half hour showing me around and chatting and then charged me just €10 for 2 nights in a field all to myself, I was overjoyed.
Agnès (the receptionist) showed me to the place and spent twenty minutes chatting about steak and all sorts (she is also stunning, if a little out of my league). Camp is next to a footy pitch so I also have a whole stand to myself in which I am sheltering from the rain! She recommended this American diner but tomorrow I will go in search of a proper steak.
Took Agnès recommendation and went to Buffalo Grill for American steak!! I can’t believe that I’m sat in an American diner in Chateaubriand!
€11.90 with a beer and salad. On budget due to very cheap or free camping. I think I may watch a film and take a bottle of wine into tent! Still on budget.
