Day 17 5/8/16
41 miles (Chateaubriand to Messac) Average speed 9.6 mph Top speed 30.1 mph
Another great day. I managed to shed 2.5 kilos by sending my winter gear on to Spain. I’m now in Messac after following cycle paths north west. I met up with Agnès from the campsite and her uncle in my regular bar in Chateaubriand by chance and had a great chat with them. He recommended best places to stay in Biarritz. I watched as Moto kids were told off in vocal fashion.

View from cycle path to Rougé
Hit cycle path to Rougé which was brilliant.

Road to Rougé
It then turned a bit too off road for my liking, saw mines and railway.

Mines and railway
Had a late lunch by a river feeding fish when a kingfisher flew by. I went on road a772 towards Redon where gendarmes were checking every vehicle but not bikes. so went straight through.Decided to stop at Messac for camping by river.

Messac
Leader Price Marché 100 metres away so bought dinner of pasta and chicken & chorizos. Drank beer and watched fishermen, spoke to one fisherman and will have a go myself in the morning.. Met Christopher and Katy walking past on towpath who chatted about niece riding to Sweden. Another great day. It’s amazing how many people talk to you when they see the bike.
Great campsite only €5.50 and right next to the river.
Just had chicken and chorizo with tomato and Provencal sauce with pasta for dinner.
