Day 228                                                        4th March

Bike computer error<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A strange day of different adventures.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Up at 7.30 and cooked boiled egg sarnies for brekkie on the newly lit fire as rain had killed last night’s. I took my time packing up and enjoying the warm fire, read a bit and had a clear-out of panniers. I paid and left at 11.30 after collecting the lid to my cream pot which had fallen over the wall. Checked out what the two guys the night before had been drinking to keep me up and several bottles of vodka was the answer!! There seems to be lots of drinking going on in this strictly Muslim country! I’ve seen some very drunk people and some very high people. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I went past the offie and said goodbye to my friendly whisky sellers and bought some water next door, then hit the road and was nearly hit by more than one Saturday driver! One in particular overtook me and then cut right across me to turn left at a junction, another almost opened his door on me. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Then the road widened on the way out of town and became a dual carriageway with plenty of room for me, if a bit uphill. The wind was cold and I needed my fleece and gloves. After a while the sun broke through to give a little warmth and Spring was breaking out. The fields were green and there was blossom on the trees. The smells were incredible with lots of olive farms and the aroma of olive oil was very strong. Also there were sheep with lambs in the fields. After about an hour the traffic became heavier and it clouded over and then the rain came so I rested in a cafe and watched Man U v Bournemouth where the pony-tailed one was up to his tricks. I checked maps.me app and it showed me a route away from the main road to the hostel. So off I went during a break in the rain down a narrow track towards a service station and downhill along a hairy track in the drizzle. This took me through farms and I got some strange looks.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In need of full waterproof gear – just a little rain<\/p><\/div>\n

Then I needed full waterproof gear as the heavens opened but at least I was now on a proper road which soon ran out and turned into a stony unmade road. I eventually returned to the main road and was soon in Fes, where the first thing I saw was the 45000 seat footy stadium and a friendly security guard told me there was a game on tomorrow, which cheered up a wet cyclist no end. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I left and ended up in a souk and then in the midst of a whole load of school children, before climbing up a steep hill and then down into town and some crazy driving.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
