A good day to celebrate a year on the road.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Up at 9 and brekkie of bread pate and tea. I showered and was on the road at 11. I followed the main road to Havelburg and was flying along in a good cycle path alongside the road. I averaged about 14 mph for the first hour and was hoping to find a cold drink en route, but there were no shops so I carried on and took my first break after 1.5 hours. I stopped for a drink in a military area but thankfully no-one shot me! Then I joined the Elbe cycle route which was great, apart from all the repair works going on which meant many detours and some walking as they weren’t very well signposted. From below the road was completely closed, which meant a very interesting detour through roadworks and across a temporary bridge, but I made it to Wittenberge and checked in at the station just as it started to rain. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I found the campsite fairly easily and went to buy dinner at Lidl. I had my usual pasta with beef and celebrated with a bottle of Treviso prosecco. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It was good to watch people playing beach volleyball next to the lake and I wrote an FB post to celebrate 1 year on the road :

Today I celebrate a year on the road. I have had the most incredible experience and have met lots of new friends and old. I’ve been to 10 countries and met some amazing people. I’ve travelled 10250 miles. I’ve slept in garages, on roundabouts, in churches, cemeteries, deserts, parks and strangers houses. I know that some of you won’t understand the concept, but I’ve enjoyed every minute. I do not miss air conditioned edit suites at all. I’ve experienced incredible sunsets and the occasional sunrise but there is nothing better than being out in the open air. I celebrated 10000 miles in a thunder storm and last night as I passed a year another thunderstorm welcomed me into the next. It’s been an incredible journey and I only hope the next year will be just as amazing, wherever it takes me.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
