Day 617 29th March 2018
5 miles (Santana) Average speed 8.7 mph Top speed 19 mph
A nice easy day but a close shave or two.
I got up at 9 for brekkie of coffee and toasted sarnie, which reminded me of the cricket teas on tour at God’s hill with the Os supporters club, when the tea lady oversees how many pieces of cake you’re allowed. The receptionist allocated me one sarnie with not much hope of another. I had a quiet morning and did some washing.
Then I ventured out to Decathlon before the rain came. The prices here in Brazil are comparatively much higher than the U.K. I bought a pair of shorts for 100 raeis and tried to beat the rain on the way back to the hostel.
While waiting on the cycle path at a set of traffic lights, a pick up truck flew around the bend to beat the lights and a large metal trolley flew off the back. I took evasive action by ducking and moving the bike away from the flying missile. The nearest I’ve come to danger on this trip so far and I wasn’t even moving! Just goes to show you always need to be on your guard!!
The other traffic waiting in line were looking on as I dusted myself down and a worker collected the trolley.
I made it back to the hostel before the deluge and then went for a second close shave from a barber. I had chicken for dinner and an early night.
