Day 948 23rd February 2019
60 miles (Serenban to Klang) Average speed 13 mph Top speed 31 mph
Another good day if a little stressful amongst the highway traffic.
I got up at 9.30 and showered before finding a good restaurant right next to the hotel where I had two roti telur and two coffees. Then I packed and left at 11.30. I found the way quite easily and was soon on the highway, but got off pretty quickly onto a single track road with very little shoulder, which was full of lorries for a Saturday. Once again I was flying along without too much wind assist this time, in fact later it was a full on headwind. As usual I stopped on the hour mark and had an iced tea and filled my bottle with ice. Then I took a road which was closed for resurfacing but they let me through which saved a long round trip.
At Dengkil I joined the motorway and enjoyed the fast pace if not the occasional pothole. There was a massive traffic jam at a roadworks and I was pleased to undertake all those fast cars with a wave. Then I got stuck on an expressway which I couldn’t get off even though there was a motorcycle lane running parallel, but there was no way to get to it. Now I seemed to get stuck in a motorway nightmare as there was no way through the minor roads. Eventually I escaped before the police caught me and found my way back to civilisation! I needed to avoid Kuala Lumpur and I found a route along a river to Klang but there were lots of roadworks and some very big trucks creating big dust clouds.
I found my way through and eventually got to Klang and used kfc WiFi to find a hotel at the cost of 3.50 ringgit for a Pepsi, but at least now I had somewhere to sleep. 4 miles further on I found the hotel and despite a lengthy check in I was surprised to find one of the best rooms I’ve stayed in here for 38 ringgit.
Instead of going to the room I went next door for a beer but the waiter refused to serve me unless I was eating. I went inside and met a young boy who gave me a beer on condition I returned for dinner. We got chatting and I met his mother and father. It was a good experience after all. I showered in a very hot shower and washed my clothes properly for once and then returned for dinner. We chatted again and I met his aunt who added me on Facebook and WhatsApp. It was nice to meet the family and I had salt fish with pork and rice which was nice but a bit salty, surprise, surprise!
