Day 968 15th March 2019
73 miles (Trang to Nuea Khlong, Krabi.) Average speed 14.9 mph Top speed 34 mph
A good day with a strong tailwind.
I was up at 8.45 and missed Kim by 5 minutes, which was a shame. I had coffee and biscuits in the room while packing and left at 11. I easily found my way out of town and onto the main road west with a good following wind.
I missed the Happy Wheels bike shop or I may have bought one of their shirts, but I have too many clothes anyway. So it was full speed ahead for the next hour. I went to a waterfall, but there was not much water flowing so I stopped for lunch at a shop with chicken satay and sticky rice, I asked for chilli sauce and they opened a new bottle for me.
I was joined by a local fisherman who was proud of his catch even though it looked pretty meagre to me, but we shared a table and enjoyed our food. Then it was back to the highway and with a good shoulder I hoped to tag onto a passing vehicle to draft, but there were none to be found as all the motos were too fast and the electioneers were hard to find; their trucks go slow enough, but they were all eating lunch or dinner when I passed them so I had to rely on my legs to carry me through.
I was happy to pass the 21000 mile mark and celebrated in a cemetery with a bottle of sprite.
Immediately after I stopped at a shop when they called me in. I met the cashier and her family. She seemed very pleased to see me and we had a photo together where she squeezed me tighter than I had expected!
Old town pakin 450 baht with a dorm to myself. Breakfast is included.
