Day 1013 29th April 2019
46miles (Rayong to ban pak nam prasae ) Average speed 11 mph Top speed 25 mph
A very hot day.
I was awake at 3am and up at 6 due to a very hot room. I went for a walk to find breakfast, but my stomach was not up to food after last nights quails eggs and fish balls, so I just had a couple of coffees and then set off at 8.
I took the main road for the first 30 minutes and then had a water stop at a garage. 30 mins later I stopped at a small shop where I had two sprites and two cakes before turning off the main road and going to the coast road.
I was struggling and I looked for possible hotels, but they were too expensive so I pushed on and stopped for more sprite and the guy gave me ice which spurred me on. Then the coast became very expensive hotel resorts and I had a mint soda in a coffee shop to check for hotels. I found a motel on the map 7 miles away and headed there, but it was closed, so I carried on after having chicken and rice.
I made it to this fishing village, but the hostel was closed too and only had a phone number so I went in search of alternatives. I found a lovely place on the river and met two Dutch cyclists staying there but 1000 was too much. The owner, lan, was brilliant and rang around for me to find a cheaper place, then took me there behind his moto. He translated for me and I got a great room for 500 baht on the river.
I showered and had a sleep before going to look for dinner, but didn’t need to go far as the owner offered me rice, fish and fresh fruit with iced water. I went for a ride and found Roo and Esther in the street and we had a long chat about our journeys and experiences. Back at the hotel I had an early night.
