Day 40 28/8/16
52 miles (Contis to Labenne) Average speed 10.7 mph Top speed 22 mph
Woke up to another great sunrise and this time a black cat watching me. Horses neighing and birdsong. Had brekkie of bread, jam and honey (thanks Ibis, the gift that keeps giving). In no rush this morning because this place is so beautiful and such a contrast to sites of late. No music or entertainment here! Just lovely countryside and only 2.5 km uphill to get here. Camping Le Tuc Campsite is a must for any cycle tourist they have everything you could want apart from an electric point!
Followed the main road to Lit et Mixe where the market was on, so bought bread and cheese. Continued on the road to a place where another market was just closing and bought tomatoes. I said I thought they were a bit pricey so he gave me an extra one.
Found entertainment for Brian the snail here
On to Hessagor where I lost the route and couldn’t hide from the rain. So went to Soustons and found a park bench under a tree for lunch. On to Capbreton but the beachside places were all the same as Blackpool, full of miserable English in the rain.
Went on to Labenne and met Germans Martin, Martin and Bettina who I had a good chat with and ended up celebrating Bettina’s birthday at a nearby bar.
A good day, at least it’s cooled down a bit. Pork and pasta for tea. Can you send more chilli flakes please Ermintrude?
Bettina is going to sell me her solar charger if I get up early enough so I must go to bed.
Goodnight said Zebedee.
