Day 95 22nd October
42miles (Torreguadiaro to Los Barrios) Average speed 10 mph Top speed 33mph
I had a smoothie for brekkie courtesy of Mandy and we rode out together until Sotogrande when we said an emotional farewell. She gave me some great advice on the route I could take.
I followed the road up to see first sighting of the Rock and then a good ride down to La Linea.
Through passport control and cycled around Gibraltar. Checked out accomodation but it was all a bit pricey and I was not really tempted to stay. It wasn’t the prettiest of places and I wasn’t even tempted to spend any sterling. Witnessed the re-enactment of the Ceremony of the Keys and took a few pictures.
Went around the shops but didn’t really fancy hanging around so set off for Los Barrios following Mandy’s route through a cement works and along the coast road with loads of graffiti.
Stopped to watch the start of Los Cortijillos footy match to avoid the rain.
Then up past a dog training centre which I thought may have been a campsite? Onto Los Barrios where there is one of the only bullrings with a roof, but I don’t think it slides anymore. (quote; ” would have had the most high-tech bullring in Spain if the automatic roof worked. It doesn’t because the architect wasn’t paid, so he took away the motor.” from this blog http://belindabeckett.com/los-barrios-spain/)
(Ermintrude: This blog looks an interesting read about the area if you have spare time)
Pension was closed so I chose Hotel Real which is pretty good with bath and wifi for €27.50 and a good choice as it then rained all night.
Had a few beers watching Granada draw 0-0 and some more pinball before a burger and chips in my room. I’m very glad I didn’t wild camp as it’s pissing down.
