Day 273 18th April
34 miles (Sampigny to Jaulny) Average speed 9.5 mph Top speed 28 mph
I left my wild camp by the river and set off towards Marbotte where I found a church which had memorials to the many dead of WW1, who had perished in the fighting in the Agremont Forest and were brought here for burial.

Church of Saint Gerard of Marbotte
There is a large war graves cemetery and stained glass windows commemorating 30,000 who died in the Bois d’Ailly and Agremont Forest together with local heroes.

An impressive and thought provoking visit.

I rode on through the forest to approach Thiaucourt-Regneville near to Jaulny where there is a German war graves cemetery. It was a day for memorials.

Arrived in Jaulny and found the campsite, (hooray! this one was open!) where I set up and then watched the sunset with a deserved beer.
