Day 553 24th January 2018
31 miles (Barro de Riacho to Jacacraipe) Average speed 12.4 mph Top speed 29 mph
I was awake at 6.30 after a good nights sleep. There was no brekkie being served so I went for a walk and then returned for a shower and had coffee and two fried egg sarnies. I checked out but didn’t pay any extra for brekkie as the cleaner took my key. I cleaned my bike in the garage with a jubilee clip and hose. Then I set off up the hill on a cobbled street before hitting a good paved road, which was a relief after yesterday. The first hour was brilliant as I cruised along on freshly tarmacked road and was flying along.

New tarmac – a real treat!
Then there was some rain, then lots of patchwork tarmac which took its toll on me and the bike. Another buckled rear wheel will need some attention soon.
I eventually arrived at the hostel after lots of bumpy roads and checked in. I then had burgers and chilled by the pool before taking a dip and venturing out to the beach for some r&r.

A beer by the pool before heading to the beach

Beautiful beach
I slept for a while and then took a swim before finding a bar with good music. I didn’t understand their pool rules, as I lost to the owner. At least he provided me with a beer to watch the sunset. As I sat there and pondered about how my life had changed so much since leaving, it was good to listen to the waves crashing against the shore. I’m a long way from where I started!!

Beer on the beach and watching the sunset
It seems amazing to be here in Brazil looking back at what I’ve achieved. I was so wrapped up in my achievements I managed to leave my bag with all my money in on the beach, but only for a minute, before returning to pick it up. Doh!
Hostel buddy house 40 reais per night.
