Day 682 2nd June 2018
20 miles (RN14 junction with 04 to Lago Represa) Average speed 9.2 mph Top speed 19 mph
I got up at 9 with the horses running up and down in the paddock next to my room. I had coffee and croissants in the garage, which were included in the hotel price.
I washed my bike next to the lorry service area, where a friendly driver offered me a lift 100 km up the road; I declined, but was soon regretting that choice, as I cycled into a strong headwind which lasted until I reached the turn off to the left to take me to the bridge. On the way I clocked up 17000 miles and noticed a marking on the road indicating 7000 m so it was easy to add a stick to make 17000 for a photo op.

17000 miles
It was a tough ride, but once I turned off it was a relief to have the wind at my side. Before long though the road ran out and I hit a sandy track. I went back to the supermarket to buy food for dinner and the owner was very helpful. I got chicken and pasta and pate for breakfast. Knowing that the campsite was only 6 miles away I took on the sandy track. After the hard graft of the sand and a sore knee, I decided to stay at this campsite and the owners were very welcoming.

A lovely place
I had a few beers to celebrate and cooked chicken on a broken fan I found to use as a grill. I enjoyed the clear night sky and stars while keeping warm around the fire.
