Day 1090 15th July 2019
42 miles (Pakxan to thouay ) Average speed 13.6 mph
Another stressful day with concern over the rear wheel.
I was awake at 8 despite not sleeping until 1.30 after watching England win the World Cup.
I had coffee, showered and packed, then left at 11.30. As I checked out the receptionist told me about ban na where you go to watch elephants if you’re lucky so I planned to stop nearby and visit them tomorrow.
I had breakfast of rice and pork with green chillis at a petrol station. Although the wheel was causing concern and I was doing well to avoid potholes I was going at a good pace.

Temporary repair
My next stop was at another petrol station to pump up the rear tyre and as I left I latched on to the back of a cart pulled by a mini tractor and drafted it for the next hour or so. It had a blue canopy to cover the three children, the mother and what looked like most of their possessions.

When I arrived at my hostel I stopped to watch a game of Sepak Takraw – which is a national sport of Laos and is similar to volleyball.
