Day 1112 6th August 2019
50 miles (Chiang Khong to Chiang Saen ) Average speed 10.5 mph Top speed 40 mph
A good day back in the saddle.
I was awake at 6, I tried to get back to sleep but with no rain and good conditions I decided to leave, had breakfast of omelette with two of the smallest sausages ever and coffee.
I left at 8.30 and within ten minutes I was going through a wet muddy orange road that ruined all the hard work of cleaning the bike yesterday. Then I got to a much better road that I could have joined earlier and was treated to a wonderfully quaint good road that even had a bike path lined out; in fairness there was not enough room for a bike and a car! This road followed the route of the Mekong most of my day except for one climb inland and a good run down on the other side with more great views of the river.
I stopped briefly to take photos and had a swing while looking out over the view. I then stopped in a small village for a drink of orange with the local village idiot chatting away at me and inviting me to take a shower in his house. He was kind and wouldn’t stop shaking my hand even though I didn’t understand what he was going on about. There was a chance of rain and I thought about stopping at a special type of weaving exhibit.
I found some ruins in Chiang Saen and stopped to have a look round before making my way to the hostel
Tata hostel. 250 baht.
