Day 213 17th February
Zagora
Having checked the wind forecast I decided to take a day’s rest and leave the bike locked up in the hotel.
I was up at 8.30 and waited for brekkie of pancake and bread and jam with fresh oranges and yoghurt. I went for a walk to find a hammam, which I did eventually and sampled my first hammam in Morocco. It was very basic, I paid my 10 dirham and got a black bucket. Once changed, the guy in charge put my clothes behind the counter and showed me to a hot tap running into a large sink which I filled my bucket from, but it was far too hot so I added some cold from another tap.
It was quite weird seeing all these men in their pants washing while sat on the heated tiled floor. After a while I settled in and enjoyed the sauna room. There were three rooms of different temperatures. It was very refreshing , but I’m not sure how hygenic it is with people washing and spitting on the floor? Still at least I had tried something new! There wasn’t any massage but I’m sure you need to pay more than 85p for such luxuries.
Then I found a hotel with a pool but they wanted 50 dirhams to use it so instead I made use of their bar! A couple of beers sitting around the pool was a nice way to spend a Friday afternoon.
