Day 641 22nd April 2018
40 miles (Mambore to Ubirata) Average speed 10.9 mph Top speed 37 mph
I got up at 8 for a good brekkie of ham and cheese toasted sarnie x 2 cakes, doughnuts but no fruit.
I left at 9.15 and climbed the road out of town but after less than a mile it turned into sand and stones for another 5 miles with some steep climbs too.

Stony road
Then after an hour I had some water and joined the main road which was a pleasure for the first few miles, downhill or flat and much appreciated. It was fairly flat and fast until I approached the town and then I had a few big climbs but as I had made such good time I took it easy.

The main road was fast and flat
On the way into town I met Romeiro, who was cycling with lots of carrier bags and we chatted briefly, before I met him again in town and he directed me to the hotel. He seemed like an interesting guy, but we didn’t communicate all that well, maybe I’ll see him again on the road.
As there was nowhere open to eat I made do with a couple of beers and a siesta before finding a Tarantino burger and fries for dinner. I was by now desperate for food. The opening times can be tricky especially in a Sunday! Having been for a walk earlier there was nothing open so I had no choice.
Hotel s paulo 30 reais.
