Day 678 29th May 2018
65 miles ( Paso de Los Libros to hotel cuatrao bocas where the rn 14 meets rn 119) Average speed 14.4 mph Top speed 24 mph
I was up at 8 and on the road at 9.30.
The lady in the supermarket wouldn’t sell me less than six large rolls so I took pate and tomato pasta sauce and left. I had brekkie at the garage I stopped at last night of three empanadas and coffee. Then I hit the RN 14 again but now it was dual carriageway with no hard shoulder but the traffic wasn’t too bad and most of the lorries pulled out into the outside lane when overtaking.
Once again the wind was behind me and I was flying along most of the day. Only when I headed west did it slow me down. It turned out to be a good day and with no prospect of a hotel or campsite I expected to wild camp. I had lunch on the side of the road of more jammy biscuits; one packet has now lasted me three meals! A flyover was closed and the diversion took me past a guy selling sausage sarnies so I had to take advantage, as you can’t beat a sausage sarnie. I took two more sausages with me to cook for dinner with pasta.
Then as I pulled out to the main carriage way to avoid more rumble strips I was engulfed in a swarm of wasps – luckily only one stung me which had hit my largest surface area, my belly. I swatted it away and managed to avoid the rest.
At the petrol station I had a hot shower for free and bought a large bottle of Pepsi before finding a nearby field to camp in. I cooked up pasta and sausage with tomato sauce and was in bed by 6.30!!
Wild camp next to garage as hotel wanted 650 pesos.
